Gti "High Scale" Super White bulb replacements ??

Post by poussou »

I've been thinking of changing my "High Scale" (far lights) bulbs with something more on the Xenon colour, since now the difference between the original Xenon lights and the High Scale is pretty great.

Anyone know if its possible and what are the bulb choices??

I've heard from some the Xenons on the Gti are ordered as a whole and that the whole front light setup cannot be oppened.

Is that true ??

I'm in the dark here.... :( :(

Main beam are Xenons so not that. Not side ones either.

I mean the High Scale for driving in the open road without traffic. The one you get when u press the lever inwards and it locks.Blue light dash indicator....

Actually Main beam (the bulbs that comes on when you get the blue light on the dash) cannot be Xenons - the time to energise is too slow so they are conventional halogen bulbs.

Interesting point is the dipped beam is illuminated at all times on cars with Xenons because if it wasn't when you went from Main beam (Halogens) to Dip (Xenons) there would be a period of time where no lights were illuminated

The units can be open. Your do need to remove the front bumper to gain access tho. I have Philips Blue vision H1 main beans and sidelights in mine from powerbulbs.

I think I put in the same lights as Neilw, but to be honest, for the time it took I wasn't hugely impressed with the results. I'd try some LED sidelights as they'll be a whiter white.

Also, is there any way to adjust the headlights cos I think mine are pointing a little too low?

You can get VW to plug a VAG-COM into the car and have your lights adjusted if they are pointing too low - might cost you 30 minutes labour (£35) though knowing them!

Poussou, I believe you are talking about the main-beam bulbs next to the xenon dipped-beam unit (see below). Like Neil says, its probably a bumper off, headlamps out, kind of job!

YES !!

These are the ones on the far right.Center ones are the Xenons and far left is the sidelamp.

The blue dash light comes on when the far right lights are on (far beam).

Thats what i wanted to know.WHAT type of lamp is that (you say H1 but the advertised site above says H4 ...  ).

Sure is crap to remove the whole bumper for that (THX VW) but hey....

Oh and what do you guys suggest as a colour/effect.I'm looking for a Xenon like colour to match the REAL Xenons...

Oh and another thing.I dont think the lights are adjusted with VAG COM but with a screw on top of them. I am currently using it and there is no such setting.

Cheers
