Differences between 1.4 FSI and 16v 100bhp

Post by Trim »

Hi I'm a newbie to the forum. I'm picking up a Polo Sport 1.4 16v 100bhp on Sat.

Got a quick question on the engines:
I wondered how you can tell if the car is the 1.4 16v model. It's got the 16v badge on the back and the V5 says "Polo Sport". However the badge in the top of the engine bay is missing. I wanted to be sure as I rang the insurance company and they said it was a FSI.

Also where does the term 9n come from as I understand the Mk6 is referred to as 9n on here?

Thanks
Trim

Got the registration number or engine code mate? 16v on the back would suggest the 16v sport 100 BHP (non FSI) whilst the 86 BHP version would have FSI on the back...although someone may have rebadged it...

I done some research before I went looking and found all the 100bhp had the 16v on the back but I thought I'd better check.

I haven't got the engine number with me but the reg is: GY53 FCZ.

Thx

Did a check and it comes up as:

Volkswagen Polo Hatchback (02 on)
1.4 Sport (100ps) 3d (02)
2003/53

Think you've got your answer right there ;)

Thanks.
Where did you manage to source that information from if you don't mind me asking? :D

nah, don't go with that as an accurate way of telling.

the rear badges and engine badges were down to the dealer to sort out. a lot of cars have weird badges including whether they have red letters or not!

Put the reg in step 3 and it usually comes up :D

And speaking of rear badges, I'm toying with the idea of putting an SDI for comedy value when some chav in his corsa tries to beat me off the lights

9N is the VW generic name for this platform, previous Polo was 6N and Fabia is 6Q - that last comment is why lots of the Polo parts start with 6Q as that platform was where some of the parts were first used - sadly that also means you've bought a Skoda Fabia with a smarter set of clothes!

that's why I took the "GT" badges off my car.

As Dave said, any badges can be stuck to a car or removed.

and it has original grandad spec brown seats with a 1.1 badge on the back.

mwahahahahahha!

no chav would know what an SDI is. best leave the badges off the car 8)
