Elliott's Polo 6n2 16v... Complete WIP Thread =D

Post by 3LL1077 »

Here is the story behind my little Polo....Patty, named after my late Nan :)

I've gone for a totally OEM/OEM+ look. Basically modding it, but subtly and using part from other VAG cars :)

First off......here is a pic of my Polo a few days after purchasing it....

Image

Let the transformation begin :)

First mod was the Polo GTi honeycomb grille

Image

Then German style pressed plates

Image

I decided to replace the gear gaitor as it was very worn and looked really tatty. I decided to get a black leather with red stitching made up especially.

Image

Then it was time to get a smaller ariel......as the original one was about 30ft long. Nothing special, just a cheap one from ebay with a tip that was almost the same colour as the car lol

Image

I thought id get some chrome valve caps and sleeves just to improve the looks on the wheels for now.

Image

Then i removed my rear wiper and took the AWFUL quicksilver sticker off the back. These two mods have by far been the most influencial on the car. They improve the look so much

This was pretty much everything i done in the first month of owning the car, i then passed my test exactly a month after purchase. I had a HUGE set back at the end of Febuary. I split up with my long term girlfriend, and the day after i lost control of the polo and hit a kerb.

I bent alot of the suspension and other parts of the car in the impact. The drive shaft ripped through my gearbox.....thus ruining that!

After a 2k repair bill the Polo was like new. This really put me off modding my car and again, didnt do any mods until about 2 months later.

First on the list was colour coding the rear badge.

The background is "crappy black plastic" as i call it. So i decided to take the rear badge off, take it apart and sand down the background, primer it, paint it and then lacquer it.

thus colour coding it for a more OEM look :)

Then i opted to get some "chrome" indicator bulbs. They basically get rid of the orange tinge that appears in indicators

I also bought some honeycomb lower bumper grilles to match the front, an extremely subtle mod but i have to have everything matching :P

Then i thought it was about time to order some new rims

I opted for Artec PA's.......mainly due to the fact that they look like 911 Turbo wheells, they fit in with the OEM+ theme and basically i love em! As an added bonus, you dont really see them on many cars atm :)

I wrapped them in 195 45 Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres.......and godamn! they are good tyres :)

You will see the wheels later on in the thread ;)

Now bare with me on this...........the main mod for Polos is to do "all reds". This is basically replacing the near side rear light to a Euro (LHD) spec Polo. Thus removing the reverse light and having all red rears.

But me, as usual, had to be different. So i done the complete oposite :)

Then came a mjor mod lol

Black rear view mirror!

I then sprayed my tweeter covers black. I dont have a before pic, but they were the same awful cream/grey colour

Image

I then decided to overhaul the interior door handles. For starters they were all peeling and looked tatty, so i sanded them all down completely, and painted them black and Canyon Red (car colour). The drivers side isnt finished, as i done this really quickly before GTi International!

The pictures really dont do them justice!

Then i decided, in my quest for a black interior, to spray my sunvisors black!

I also retro fitted a tinted interior light from an older Polo into mine! :D

I'll be spraying the electric window switches and the electric door mirror switch when i have time.

Then i took a huge step and removed my engine cover and pulley cover......yea you guessed it. To be sprayed!

To be honest, as with the other parts, it was looking tatty and old lol. So i thought id spray it satin black (same as everything else) with a hint of Canyon Red here and there. I also got rid of the manky weathered VW badge and replaced it with a custom little badge i found while on ohliday in Cornwall last month :)

After ;)

More colour coding to come :)

My mate with a red Polo GTi saw my mirror and had to have it! So i had his old mirror, and decided to do something different (again!).

Two tone colour coded, this was a huge gamble. It would either look s**t or really good. And the response i get from people is amazing! So its a success :)

New mirror....

I then decided to get a bonnet bra. Not to everyones taste but i love it :)

I also ordered a splitter from my local SEAT dealership from a Leon Cupra R

I ordered some coilovers, i wanted my car to be SLAMMED! They took 2 months to be delivered but was so worth it! They were fitted the next day, a day before GTi international! It was worth all the hard work and waiting just to see peoples faces when i turned up at the convoy meet :)

firstly wat is going on with ur ariel?
secondly i was thinking of doing something with my sun visors to make them black to see wat theyd look like but didnt know how to do it.... did u use a special paint for it?
thirdly i really like ur wheels, theyre different and yet suit the car perfectly. i saw these wheels ona website on a model polo and wondered wat they were as the ad was advertising a bumper not the wheels.

Looks brilliant, really good job :)

I am going to start a few very minor cosmetic mods and some more mods on the ICE of mine in the next few weeks as I have some money lying about :D

The air filter looks nicely done. I had decided not to go ahead and buy one but it does look (and probably) sound nicer so I may just reconsider :P

nice,

when i put the LCR splitter on my car, i always wondered how it would look attached to a normal splitter, not a GTI one.

NOW IVE SEEN IT :D looks goods, although ill probably leave mine as it is coz i cant be bothered

top marks for the effort put into the car though. small things make a huge but subtle difference (huge but subtle - how contradicting)
