Abs trouble shooting and parts help..

Post by maidenboy »

Right chaps, I have had wheelman waynes' old polo gti, 6n2 for a while now, and am slowly but surely working my way through various problems on her.. The abs light coming on when you hit 30mph exactly being one.. Firstly it was throwing a front offside sensor code, replaced it, then permanent light from ignition click for which I have fixed the dry solder joint in the control module. Then replaced (after much swearing) the 2 rear abs sensors. The light still comes on at 30 mph.. So am going to do the front near side sensor too just incase it's that, will be replacing discs and re-bleeding whole system, as I doubt it's ever been done(spongy underperforming brakes).

My question is, when I was replacing the rear sensors I noticed that the abs spiders that slide over the inside of the rear hub were incredibly corroded.. Spent a couple of hours cleaning them as best I could, but still not happy with the way they looked. Does anyone know of anywhere that I can get those pick up rings from? Anyone done them before?

Secondly, anyone had similar probs on their abs system, if it all fails, I think I'm going to remove it all, as I can drive, and don't really like abs anyhow, was just trying to keep originality.. Anyone done that on here??

Need help on this folks.. :) sooner it's done, the sooner I can refurb the bbs in black, and get her dropped :)

apparently there is a connector under the rear seat, if you can find it, might be worth checking that

This is true, but I am also thinking it may have a bit of vapour lock in the pump itself, as the ecu has been refurbed.. When I fit the goodies and flush the system with fresh fluid, I will try and find out how to purge the pump too.. If it ends up being the abs pump, I can't justify the cost.. Would rather ditch it and have a fixed line system.. Really gotta get that vagcom up and running to help pinpoint problem.. As after the ecu fix, the 01246?? (hydraulic pump) went.. Just not had it checked since.. :(

I might have a spare pump kicking around as i bought a complete unit off ebay when i needed another control module.

Worth getting it scanned again to see what the code is though, it still could be that annoying control module.

Vagcom has the option to purge the pump as well from memory.

Really? Well Im hopefully getting the vagcom up and running tonight, so will see what code it drops on me :) if it does turn out to be the pump, I will gladly put some money your way.. Also be useful to purge the pump, so hopefully tonight will be fruitful.. Lol.. Knowing my luck it won't be though..

Just want to make her immaculate again.. Such a great little car.
