You have to install a new wire from T73b/1 to T6/3 to power the lights of the switches, instrument panel lighting, A/C button lighting, etc ... when you install that BCM 089F.

T73a/4 is for the interior lights (dome lights, footwell lights) to turn on when you open the doors, or to turn off when you close the doors.
It is a ground, but dependent on the door switches.
You should never touch this pin-wire, whatever it is that we are talking about.

T73a/1 is used to activate the relay that operates the automatic lights.

In the BCM 089F that you have, you must enable Byte23 Bit0, so that both T73b/1 (58 signal) and T73a/1 (headlights activation signal) are operational once you have done the correct installation of the wiring for automatic lights.

End of the story, do what you see fit.

Regarding the CCS, in addition to having it enabled in the BCM, you must enable Byte5 Bit5 in the ECU.
It must be done with the engine OFF.

Most of the faults reported in Autoscan 'AFTER' are due to incorrect BCM coding, apart from those related to wiring adaptation.
It is highly likely that the door switch has no problem.

VCDS cable ... hmm ... you know, it shouldn't be a problem though.

There are several issues related to unsuitable conditions and not performing the proper procedures to upgrade to a BCM Max in your T5.1 2011.

---
Now is when the advice I gave you about the BCMs you already have is most valuable, that is, do not modify the wiring for the T5.1 2011 and install on it the BCM 087 from the Caravelle 2012, and install the 089F (or any other BCM Max) in the Caravelle with the proper procedure.

I tell you a little secret now that nobody hears us, ... the BCM Max 7H0937089F is the one that my 6R had from the factory due to having bi-xenon headlights without automatic lights. Automatic lights were never a factory option for the 6R, so it is possible to install a BCM Max without having to install automatic lights (it is even possible having any type of headlights).

ciclo - what length did you make your looms:

- CAN LINES
- BCM - LIGHT SWITCH - DIMMER
- AUTOLIGHTS

Thanks in advance

If you mean the length of the wiring for the BCM adaptation and automatic lights wiring for T5, here are some wiring lengths that Adam87 gave me:

Fuse box - BCM ~ 225cm
Fuse box - Light switch ~ 220cm
BCM - Light switch ~ 75cm
BCM - T41 ~ 183cm
BCM - T32 ~145cm
BCM - T10o ~376cm

They are in centimeters, I hope you can handle them.
I remember he told me that a few more centimeters are added to real lengths.
To take into account that each one can have a different perspective of what is the ideal route. :)

Tips:

Measure the length of the wiring taking into account its entire route/path (elbows, curves, angles, etc.), it is a priority to follow the original wiring path (sometimes it is not entirely possible).
Add 20cm to the measurement taken, for cuts, crimps, and facilitate installation/removal.

---
I usually finish installing the wiring (crimping of the connector terminals, etc.) in the vehicle itself and I usually add a lot of wiring to the length taken.

Brilliant, thank you.

I just wanted a rough idea, so I think I will probably wire up some ends and as you say leave the other end until actually installing it in the bus and then cut and crimp

Good morning ciclo,

I apologise, it seems we may have got our wires crossed (excuse the joke  ) The instrument/cluster/switch lighting has always worked fine in the Transporter since doing the BCM swap. It has no dimmer next to the headlight switch, it only has a headlight level switch. The part number of this unit is 7H0 941 333. I think this probably explains why there is no wire in T73b/4, perhaps the instrument/cluster/switch lighting takes its feed along with the headlights on this low-spec model? Anyway, it works, so I am not too worried.

The issue I was having was with the interior lights (dome lights) not working on the 'doors open' setting, only on the 'permanently on' setting. I have restored the wire into T73a/4 now - and it has gone back to not working as before and producing an error code. I understand that, whilst it may have worked, T73a/1 is the incorrect position for that wire as it is to control other functions. I apologise profusely for suggesting your advice was incorrect  I wonder if it may be due to coding, or there is another position for this wire using this BCM :?:

I understand your advice to swap the BCMs between Transporter and Caravelle, and have thought about this in great depth. With the Transporter, it's only me that uses it for work, I am not terribly upset by no interior lighting. The Caravelle I use with the family, including 4 children and a wife, no interior lighting would be a big problem. I really need to find a solution to this interior lighting problem before using this 089 BCM in the Caravelle - or at least be able to easily swap the 087 one back in if there is a problem. As such I think the best way forward for me on this occasion, would be to try and solve the interior lights in the Transporter with the 089 BCM, document the solution, and purchase a second 089 BCM for the Caravelle, and hopefully apply the same solution. If it doesn't work, I can easily re-install the 087 into the Caravelle until we find a solution. I hope that makes sense and you can see my logic :) When I first attempted this upgrade on the Transporter there was very little info out there that I could find, only that 087/089/090 was required for cruise control.

I have also now borrowed from somebody at work 'another' VCDS cable, and it has allowed me to put the BCM coding to nearer the original, just with the bits changed for MFSW, cruise control, and one bit would not take the original coding as it said it was out of range. I can only apologise for my previous coding, I can now see how ridiculous it looks, I must have been drunk at the time as it was during the lockdown. I have also changed the byte on the engine ECU which has now allowed the cruise control to work. So the only outstanding problem is the interior (dome) lights now :D Link to updated autoscan here on pastebin

Thanks in advance for any advice regarding the interior lights...

I think if you dont have the dimmer you need to get the part that has that in it and then install the wire

You need 7E0941333

My life would be meaningless without jokes, in fact I think my life is situated between the concepts of joke and nightmare , crossed wires of all kinds have a tendency to find me.

I already imagined what your situations are with the two T5.1 and I was not wrong in my assumptions (it was not difficult to assume), which I understand and share in their entirety.
You don't need to apologize for anything, we do things, and if nothing burns, we can keep making mistakes until we find the solution. Nothing will burn with me here, you can be sure of it.

Just to inform you:
The power supply of the interior lights (dome lights) is carried out as follows.
- The BCM (any model) receives power through PIN T73a / 66, from the SB7, or SC17, or SC24 fuse (depending on the van model).
- and supplies this power by PIN T73a / 65 to power:
♦ Front and rear interior lights
♦ Luggage compartment lights -W18-, -W35-
♦ Illuminated entry strip -W31-, -W32-, -W33-, -W34-
♦ Glove compartment light -W6-
♦ Illuminated vanity mirror -W14-, -W20-
♦ Automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror -Y7-

If you want you can check the status of these fuses, although it really does not make sense because your dome lights work through the button.

I'm going to go over the BCM coding of the new autoscan, which makes the most sense from the first moment I've seen it.👍
I'll tell you something shortly.

Glad to hear that you already enjoy CCS in your T5.1 2011. 8)

It is an excellent solution.👌
Although it is possible to power the lights of the switches, A/C, instrument panel, etc. with pin T73b/4 (T73b/1) without having the Dimmer. I have never explained how to do it because all this adaptation is easier having the Dimmer, ... it is also included in the wiring diagrams (erWin, elsa).

Having the Dimmer makes it much easier to adapt all wiring when upgrading to a BCM Max, fewer wires are needed and it avoids cumbersome work because we use part of the original installation.
Without a doubt it is better to buy the Dimmer.

Good evening Thekeymeister.

Everything is correct in your new BCM coding (latest autoscan) "according to your current circumstances" :) , which are, BCM Max 089F with improper electrical installation.

The only way to solve the problem of "Short to plus" from your dome lights is to feed the BCM for the whole set of lights, that is, what's explained here in point 1 for wiring adaptation. It is part of how the BCM Max works internally.

Once this point 1 is done, the dome lights will work again without having to touch or check any wires in the dome lights electrical circuit, that is, the current electrical circuit - Fuse, T73a/66, T73a/65, T73a/4, ground - must not be touched.

Thanks for your assistance with this,

Just want to confirm, it's supplying a +12v feed to T73a/63 and T73b/68 only as per the part 1? I'll try it with a temporary connection first and see how we get on. I had heard somewhere else that I needed to add some extra power wires along with new CAN wires but I am pleased the CAN wires aren't required.

If I do need to rewire the lights to be controlled by the BCM (ie step 2/3), that's all fine, but I may need some assistance with wiring in the dimmer as I currently don't have one at all. It would give me some practice for when I do the Caravelle so I'd be happy to do it all even though I won't be using OEM style auto lights in this vehicle.

I'll try the 'part 1' today hopefully anyway, and report back :)

Ps hope this works, this is a photo of both 8)

Yes, at the moment only point 1.
The two wires that supply the +30 signal (direct from battery) to T73a/63 and T73b/68 BCM pins.

Nice picture. 8)

My terminals arrived

:D

I can now begin the BCM upgrade and loom making.

I have my RLS sensor installed now and loom ran in, just need to wire in the cables and activate this.

For permanent live and switched live can I take a feed from the current headlight switch?

I also need reversing lights, which is the green/black in the BCM? The final wire I dont know where to find is for the interior lights, any one guide me on that?

And obviously earth, but thats easy

Yes, you can take the two feeds from the wires that reach the light switch.

+30 for RLS.
+15 for Automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror.

You don't absolutely need to connect the reversing light signal to the mirror. Its function is that the mirror does not dim under any circumstances when reversing.
There are many volkswagen models that do not have this function.
Other Volkswagen models have the function that the mirror does not dim if you turn on the dome lights.
And there are models that include both functions.

IMHO the best of these functions is that the mirror does not dim if the dome lights are turned on.

I have had both functions in the mirrors that I installed in my 6R and I have never missed the function dedicated to reverse.
Currently without the function dedicated to reverse because supposedly the HBA PQ25 mirror does not have this function (and I am as happy as ever  ).

Thanks, I wont worry about the reverse wire then.

Under what circumstance would you ever have the dome lights on and reversing? :?:
