Rear door control module MQB LIN emulator installation in my T-roc: Unsuccessful/incompatible.

Why need a LIN emulator?
VW doesn't provide the rear door control modules in many of their budget to mid range cars to save cost. One of the many advantages of having rear door control modules is in retrofitting rear door warning/ exit lamps in OEM way.
For those who do not have rear door control modules like my T-roc, have to resort to an alternative way of wiring and installing the rear door warning lamps. I personally believe, using the rear door open ground wire of the rear door lock microswitch is not safe, but there is no alternative.
Here comes the role of a LIN emulators, conceptualized by one among many Russian wizards named Roman( HackR) from drive2 forum.

As Roman explains in his post, his emulator bypasses the use of ground wire from door lock/unlock microswitch. Instead it uses LIN bus signal from door window motor and converts to regular analogue signal to control the rear door warning lamps. This is the main reason for me buying the emulators. There are also other advantages of the emulator, like it switches off the lamp after some time in case the door is opened for prolonged time. It also emulates the light off in a gradual fading effect similar to front door warning lamps do when doors are closed.
The connection is simple. Emulator has 5 pins, 3 input and 2 output to door warning lamps.

But unfortunately, the lamp LEDs didn't light up when door was opened. Did multimeter check, there was almost nil output ( 1.5V instead of 12V) on pin5 of emulator.
The plausible reason given by Roman is that, these MQB LIN emulators are designed based on 5Q0 front door control modules of his Tiguan. But in my T-roc, 5Q4 front door control modules are installed from factory. Probably the bytes/ bits responsible for door open/ close in LIN communications are different in 5Q0 and 5Q4 modules.

I think, I will atleast try to use unused BCM pins to power up my rear door warning lamps, instead +30 from fusebox. I have received a informative document from dear master Ciclo to study about MQB lighting control adaptations of BCM... back to school again

The original LED ceiling/dome lights and my old white LED footwell lights (LC72) have/had that fade-on/fade-off feature. I also had the old white LED footwell lights programmed to be ambient/auxiliary/hall/bus lights. As we all know, both lights also turn off after the preset/programmed time.

I think for my fall 2024 project when I wire my rear door warning/exit lights "correctly" I'll program them like that, though the bus lights are not clear to me here.
I guess later, for my winter/Christmas 2024 project I'll program them to flash intermittently to live with excitement and hope for such a beautiful season.

I think that rather than an evolution, it is about increasingly better "ordering" what was already known and what could be known in the future.
We humans, in our position of being able to change things (like gods), have good ideas, but we are a real disaster when it comes to organizing to be able to spread our ideas in a clear and concise way.

In any case, translations can sometimes lead to confusion.

I am absolutely sure that after so many years, DV52 knows with absolute certainty that they are 'exit' and not 'entry', it is logical that editing a PDF that is so old no longer makes sense. It has happened to me on many occasions. Translators are always to blame for everything.

It is a good idea to keep things in the language of the creator.

It is always better to have an open and relaxed mind in order to achieve better goals.

Let's hope that no one presses a red button because the interpreter/translator or IA made a mistake in the translation...

... we could disappear because of a simple thing like this.

Rear door exit/ warning lamps test using unused BCM pin : successful

Using the same BCM pin t73a /72, commanded this pin to work as rear left door exit/ warning lamps by adjusting adaptations Leuchte30FR LC72.

My observations:
The light goes off after few minutes simultaneously along with interior lights, when door is kept open. I played with adaptations to bring in slow fading effect when door is closed, but couldn't figure it out. We will need 2 unused BCM pins to control each of rear door exit/ warning lamps.
Finally, I achieved what I was aiming for, OEM way of controlling rear door warning lamps

I will do rewiring of rear door warning/exit lamps at convenient time.

, I think you should 'search' with the search terms 'Tuer' and/or 'Interior_light_' in the Protocol Diagnostics of your 'Exceptional' TRoc.

Perhaps, with patience and using a good translator if necessary, you can find in all those 'highlighted' adaptation channels something related to the slow fading effect for these lights. I guess it should be activated in 'decimal value/percentaje' or 'active/not active' in one of those channels.

I was interested in the specific part with the lighting of the doors on the way out. (door warning lamps)
I am thinking of using it for another reason (similar and of course related to lighting). More on my own thread so as not to spoil Patil's thread.

OEM frameless autodimming IRVM: Improvised to perfection

Previously, I had modified the OEM frameless autodimming IRVM to fit in my T-roc. But the result was not perfect.viewtopic.php?p=605327#p605327
After carefully studying and taking measurements of the mirror ball- socket mounts of both my T-roc and new frameless mirror, I realised that, ball- socket mounts are almost identical.
I decided to buy a new frameless autodimming mirror with a different part number this time 3G0857511AD. Compared to previous frameless mirror 3G0 AC, the AD version supports sidemirror autodimming function as it has 2 additional pins. Though, AC version can also be modified in PCB by soldering 2 new wires to support side mirror autodimming. I know that, Octavia MK3 side mirrors did came with autodimming side view mirrors from the factory, they are perfect fit (1:1) for MK1 T-roc. If I get hold of those autodimming side mirrors, I will retrofit them, as new AD version frameless IRVM supports it. For now, blue tinted, heated and with integrated blinkers I got from AliExpress are doing great job

This time I took a pragmatic approach. Decided to swap the stock T-roc IRVM mount with new frameless IRVM. For this, I had to dismantle both the mirrors completely

With few expired credit/debit cards, heat gun and lot of patience, it is fairly easy job to dissemble the mirrors without damaging. Luckily, the ball-socket locking units of both mirrors turned out to be identical twins!

Stock T-roc IRVM completely dissambled:

New frameless IRVM dissambled

Comparison of lock mounts, both are similar except for the length. Top T-roc, bottom new frameless IRVM.

Replaced the lock mount of frameless IRVM with T-roc mount. Perfect swap

The result is very satisfying

Everything is perfect, new frameless IRVM can be moved and adjustable freely like IRVM from factory

I got some free time out of my hectic work schedule. So decided to do all the above 3 retrofits at the same time, as they involve almost the same area/trims involved of the central console.

Log #26 OEM wireless charging pad(5NA980611, rated 5w).

Pictures/details of installation:

1. 12v +30 from the additional fuse box I made
2. GND to near by GND point
3. 5F control unit quadlock grey connector 12pin t12/5 &11
4. BCM t73a/14 "C" connector( optional) - I connected it, this connection has a specific function, I found out by doing tests. This connection allows the phone to continue charging even when ignition is turned off. The charging stops only when the driver door is opened/ car is locked.
5. Coding: Enable Byte15, bit5 in 5F using experimental yellow screen.

Bought a new charging rubber mat for RHD 2GB863328B9B9. For LHD 2GA863328C9B9
Charging also works with stock mat, but the mat for wireless charging is designed thoughtfully. The new mat has a wide central deeper recess for correct alignment of the phone over the charging pad. On the back side, new honeycomb pattern of the mat allows heat dissipation more efficiently

I have observed a noticeable reduction of phone heating with the new mat.

# 27 ?OEM Led DSG gear knob China version.

I bought this from a reputed AliExpress seller. She assured me that it is OEM China version and not cheap replicas sold everywhere on AliExpress. I took her words with a pinch of salt and purchased it. For the price of 70$, the quality, the fit and finish is very good, I have no complaints.

I prefer to have a dual display of gears selection both in knob and base panel. The Chinese version doesn't have the problem of electronic conflict when you install a LED gear knob while retaining the base gear indicator panel. The Original EU version LED knob will not work correctly if the knob is installed while retaining the base gear indicator panel. Some letters on both the led knob and base panel don't illuminate correctly.

The fonts are slightly thinner in Chinese version compared to OE version. But the colour rendering is perfect and works well. No errors in scan

#28 OEM touch climatronic unit China version ( 17G907044AN)

A previous attempt to install touch climatronic with a frame bought from AliExpress was unsuccessful. The touch climatronic frames for T-roc sold in AliExpress are for LHD only. Details here viewtopic.php?p=602253#p602253
As I mentioned previously, for RHD T-roc we need a frame with part number 2GB863099B. Unfortunately, this part is not sold separately! It's a part of a larger ridiculously expensive central console trim 2GB863042B.
Fortunately, I found the RHD central console trim with frame for touch climatronic unit on EBay UK for a fraction of the price. But the seller wasn't willing to ship to India. I tormented dear iichel to get it.

The trim made a long and arduous journey from UK-NL-IND.
Finally got it undamaged and in perfect condition like brand new.. glossy

I liked the glossy black trim so much so that, for a change, I decided to install the trim as is rather than transferring the climatronic frame to my stock limestone grey trim

The climatronic frame is plastic welded to central console trim, but with gentle hands and correct tools it is possible to dismantle the frame without damaging it.

Basic settings and coding/adaptations transfer:
1. Transferred the 08 HVAC coding from old to new unit
2. Basic settings of flap motors went on fine.
3. Basic settings of AC compressor didn't start, got an error

I had to follow the steps provided by Ross -tech shared by dear master Ciclo in his post here viewtopic.php?p=575072#p575072 http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 9_Climatic

On 3rd attempt, it was successful!

I did all the checks on new unit and everything is working correctly

Though I felt it wasn't necessary, I did transfer all the adaptations of old unit. Everything was ok.

My observations:
The new touch panel looks modern and adds premiumness to cabin. Touch buttons sensitivity is sharp and works well. The sensitivity of touch can be adjusted in adaptations. I rarely touch the climatronic unit once set at desired temperatures, so the new touch panel shouldn't be of distraction to me.
I also found few deficiencies in the new unit. The Max AC button is missing on the new unit, it is very useful in hot countries like mine to get instant full AC on the push of a button. Sync button is also missing, instead a clean air option is available. Sync is now available in the AC menu display of MIB, though I don't use it much ( EU version has sync instead of clean air) . Another bug I found was when you press Menu option in touch display, AC menu appears in MIB, and press menu again, AC menu doesn't close on MIB and goes back to the previous display. This wasn't the case with the old unit, I found it slightly annoying in the new unit.

Overall I am very satisfied with the results of all three retrofits.

Updates:

1. A5 assistant camera: Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) + 60 seconds interval to take control of the steering wheel when ACC is on.

VCP file management system has a custom dataset for T-roc A5 assistant camera 3Q0980654L which activates TJA and 60sec interval to take control of steering wheel ( from factory 15sec). I flashed it.

Both features worked as intended right away, I didn't have to do any coding/ adaptation changes in concerned control units.
In TJA, car moves automatically if stop is less than 3 sec, if more than 3 sec stop then asks to press gas pedal to move. Lane assist works from 0km/hr in TJA mode with DSG and available from minimum cruise speed 30km/hr in ACC mode. Previously lane assist was available only from 65km/hr.

Honestly speaking, Lane assist in 3Q0 "L" version factory assistant camera in my T-roc works decently under ideal road conditions ( which is rare in my country)
With more speed( 90km/hr and above), less accurately it holds to the lane in long curves. It likes straight roads and hates curves. Adaptive lane guidance really helps lane assist to hold the lane consistently.
I plan to upgrade from 3Q0 to 2Q0 camera for travel assist. More about it later.

2. Updated 65 TPMS firmware from 5Q0 "B to "F"

Existing dataset is not erased after flashing. I also changed the dataset with different psi settings for testing purposes. The tolerance limit to trigger low pressure warning is 3psi/0.2bar in "B " version. I think it will be the same with F version also.

Retrofit: New top R version MK8 capacitive touch steering wheel+ steering wheel heating

I will start with the end result

Sometime ago, I posted the pictures of new top version MK8 touch steering wheel I had bought.viewtopic.php?p=605477#p605477

Previously, I had replaced the factory installed steering wheel with MK8 touch with ACC+ assistant buttons+ heating button. Activated only ACC and left steering wheel heating retrofit for future.

After removing the previous MK8 steering wheel+ airbag, it was time to replace the stock slipring with one which supports steering wheel heating.

Old and new slipring:

New slipring with 5Q1 pnp adapter(16pin to 14pin) from AliExpress. I got new 14 pin connector for new slipring but didn't use it, instead I used adapter from Ali, saves time and hassle free.

The results

Let me say something.. final impressions

The new top R version MK8 capacitive touch steering wheel is damn gorgeous with blue stitch and blue R button. R button stands out both day and night.

I liked the long ninja paddle shifters

and feel smooth and premium to touch and operate

I must admit, the new R steering wheel is crown jewel of my all retrofits

I have activated TA button just for completeness, pressing it doesn't do anything.I know 2Q0 camera is needed.

Steering wheel heating was like cherry on the cake

First time ever I experienced the heated steering wheel in cold winter weather.. loved it

I've paid for the whole steering wheel, I am gonna make whole thing work
