Have a look at your spark plugs, if they're all in good condition (dry and light brown is good) and it's running well enough and (not smoking or drinking loads of petrol) then I wouldn't bother changing anything. Take it for a good hard blast down the motorway, especially if it does a lot of stop-st...

It does have two fuel pumps. That one is the inline fuel pump. The other one is the lift pump which is located in the fuel tank.

Nice car. I wish I could justify spending that much, but it'd probably be wasted on me, I could never keep it that shiny. Hope you found it a good home!

If you park it on a big piece of cardboard, you can see where any drips land, which might help you trace where it's coming from. If it doesn't drip when parked, run the engine for a bit as some leaks only show up under pressure. If it's right at the front ot the engine bay, then you probably have a ...

The Polo numbering conventions are a bit complicated, but being P reg would make your car a mark 4. Changing pads should be pretty straightforward. Discs are generally a bit easier than drums, but either should be easy enough. If it's not obvious how to do it, then a Haynes manual will take you thro...

I think you'll be needing a new one. The last one I saw had the platic part moulded onto the cable. maybe you could fix it, but the chances are that it'd go again soon enough. A new cable probably won't set you back more than a tenner and it's easy enough to fit. Just make sure you pay attention to ...

I think a de-bumpered polo could look cool if done right. I'm pretty sure that you don't need a bumper for the MOT, but you can't leave any sharp protrusions, brackets, bolts etc. sticking out. I know that old Mini's will fail without a bumper because they have a seam that sticks out underneath. De-...

i read on another thread somewhere on this forum that the gt and g40 rads were different to other ones, i can confirm that all mk3 polos share the same rad, my works comp told me so today lol! Well my car thinks differently because when I replaced the radiator the new one was a different size. It d...

Update

Thanks, for all your replies.

Other stuff got in the way and I never got round to looking at the car before its MOT. The good news is that it passed anyway, so it's obviously not too bad. Unless it starts banging and clunking, I'm going to wait until summertime then have a go at doing it myself.

There are lots of more knowledgeable people than me on here who can fill in the details, but the basic specs are:

1990-1994
1300cc fuel injected engine
75 bhp

Top mounts...

Yeah, I realise I'd need to use spring compressors, but since I don't actually need to take the springs off, I wondered if there was enough room to do it without taking the whole strut off. Basically, I just don't want to muck round in the cold and wet trying to undo balljoints and driveshafts which...

A question about top mounts...

The front top mounts on my car are a feeling a bit sloppy. I was wondering if it's possible to fit the new top mount's without taking the whole strut off. It looks like there might be enough room, but it depends how much everything moves about when the suspension drops. So... am I just being wildly ...

I wonder... if you say that above mentioned pages are technically correct, why would you go against the flow and instead of following the proper (?) marking you introduce your own and wreak havoc and misunderstanding? ;) I'm sure a lot of newcomers feel a little bit misled just as I do! :) Cheers I...
