I have a 72 R-Line.

Mines mounted on the rear window, at the corner the window trim becomes wider and so the cable goes into the trim, through the OEM wiring loom/seal and into the cabin where it runs along the trimming to the front.

I don’t know the answer but in my experience on other VWs you just pull directly upwards and the plastic clips will loosen and come free.

From my own research it’s a sealed unit with separate oil for the mechatronics and the gearbox itself. The mechatronics is sealed and the gearbox oil ‘can’ be changed but isn’t absolutely required.

I've had mine read the speed signs on adjacent roads or slip lanes and then adjust my speed to that. It's a little annoying but I assumed its just a standard thing with these roadsign recognition systems.

Mine points slightly up.

If I have it in the forward position with the handbrake raised it sits just a few mm off the top of the handbrake. If yours is touching the handbrake I'd suggest thats abnormal.
