Re: pedal box

It's always best to get the clutch cable done too as you've said you would. I found out the hard way, replaced the box only for it to go again two days later. So I forked out for another and a cable!!! Be aware you can also twist the cable when it links with the clutch, this can ease or harden the t...

Re: A couple of problems with my 6n

mainly when it happens due to slowing down and dipping the clutch, it is the TB. However, it can also be other components you've just mentioned. The most expensive out of the culprits would be the Idle Control Valve, which controls the right amount of air in relation to gas. When it gets mixed signa...

Re: May have a problem

The brown gunk on your Oil cap is a result of mix of water mixing with the oil which isn't good. Most likely your headgaskets on the way out.

Re: Noticed the steering wheel shaking slightly. What causes?

Could be wheel alighment/tracking.

Can also be a result of a rim being kerbed.

Could be any of the suspension, brakes, hub.... components but do get it checked.

Re: Gearbox or Release Bearing?

When you get the whiring noise it's usually the bearings as my box was reconditioned twice previously. If you have the cash it's best to get the whole thing reconditioned for the best price you can find as valver boxes take more strain then the other models and suffer as a result.

Re: Polo 6n G40 with pics of build

Very nice, any idea on the amount of bhp its running?

One of the locals, Jas who you'll probably know had a 6n2 G40 and then raised the bar with a 6n2 1.8T.

By any chance did have you got your hands on the Polo Tomo had built?

Re: Temp Sensor, what do i need and were is it ?

Best to get one from somewhere like GSF to be certain. The temp sensor is in a pipe on the right side of your engine. There may be a guide to changing it as it's a common task so search it in the DIY section. Hopefully you'll find a picture of where it belongs.

Re: Dull slight whining noise :< help?

Dip the clutch when your foot's off the gas. If the whinning stops then you definately have a gearbox with shoddy bearings. With gearbox bearings you'll hear it more when decellerating so it may be the cause.

Re: golf mk3 gti 2litre 8v engine swap

Should be ok seeing 1.8T's get chucked in with a good squeeze! If you can manage and it's cheap enough then go for it. If you can find a decent 1.8T then that'll be a better donor.

Re: What's this noise?

Sorry for the late reply.

I meant the gearbox bearings and not suspension!

Anyway I was a bit close if definetly is your clutch causing it. Glad to hear you got it sorted

Re: air filtersss

It's like a very simple puzzle and you can't get it wrong! Just take all teh screws out of the standard air box and your air filter goes on top of the throttle body. You'll need the 90 degree bend or it'll look like a chimney! If you have a 6n 1.4CL the TB should measure 60mm I think and a 16v is 65...

Re: Lights on reminder sound!?

I've never had it on either 6N i've owned! So I presumed they didn't have it.

It doesn't really bother me as I can leave my stereo playing and the lights on for a good few hours and the battery's totally fine!

Re: My 6N cut out in dangerous situations... twice.

You said you slammed the brakes on BUT did you also dip the clutch first? 6N's cutting off when dipping the clutch is the 'erratic rev's' syndrome. If you don't feel the revs drop prior to stalling then this wouldn't be the problem and cleaning the TB wouldn't fix it either. If symptoms are as descr...

Re: 6N picture thread

For some reason I thought a 6N picture thread already existed in another part of the forum; ain't been on here for ages! Most of these pics of my 16v have been whored to death but might as well post them up on a 6N pics thread :D http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/nozmulH/Eastern_Jul_09/36825154...
