Is there any way to try amping them with say a 35-40 W RMS amplifier using the stock wiring to see what they sound like? ive amped the original tweeters with a amp pushing 2 x 50wrms. any reason why you can't use the sub out from the Alpine HU, or isn't there one? edit: obviously not! but I'd go for a HU with at least two pre-outs. you can get an amp with a high level input to put the speaker wires into instead of the RCA but they're not as good. Ok, let me tell you what setup i have, i think it will help you a bit with your decision. I got a JVC amp running 2X200wrms @ 4ohms going to the alpine type r components your looking at, and it now sounds super clear. I've been told that overpowering speakers actually delivers better sound overall....

Is your cat still intact? If so, why not just have a straight through? Apparently the noise levels aren't much higher higher without the back box and it'll make your exhaust system less restrictive
