Is there any way to try amping them with say a 35-40 W RMS amplifier using the stock wiring to see what they sound like? ive amped the original tweeters with a amp pushing 2 x 50wrms. They sound a lot clearer and obviously louder than running off my pioneer headunit... i get no distortion at all bu...

Bah humbug...much ado about nothing. Spent like half an hour pointlessly roaming round in circles in Manchester city centre (traffic's a nightmare) cos I was gonna meet my mate at Victoria station which was nearby, only to find they didn't have what i want in stock :( What brightened up my day is th...

my amp is 200wrms while the components are 110wrms, so i'll let you know if they blow, which i'm sure they won't if you just turn the gain setting down  My amp is 300w RMS and my components are 150w RMS  That makes them do this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/ModifiedMadness/th_P1...

any reason why you can't use the sub out from the Alpine HU, or isn't there one? edit: obviously not! but I'd go for a HU with at least two pre-outs. you can get an amp with a high level input to put the speaker wires into instead of the RCA but they're not as good. Was just wondering...do you have...

Hehe, loving the amount of replies I'm getting :D Thanks a lot for your input Tim...will see how funds look when it comes to getting the new setup. Say I wanted to run a sub in the future on the Alpine HU, could I just use an RCA splitter? And can anyone comment on this amp: http://www.caraudiocentr...

Ok, let me tell you what setup i have, i think it will help you a bit with your decision. I got a JVC amp running 2X200wrms @ 4ohms going to the alpine type r components your looking at, and it now sounds super clear. I've been told that overpowering speakers actually delivers better sound overall....

Cheers for the replies guys :) 250-300W RMS is alot for a budget install!! If you just want improved sound quality and ipod connectivity on a budget, then i'd recommend buying a good set of components running off a decent HU. Sub, amp and current speaker install would sound gash, there would also be...

New audio setup - lots of questions!

Hi all. Am thinking about ditching the stock Gamma HU and 6 CD changer for something that has better sound quality and good iPod connectivity. Don't really want to spend too much over £100 on the head unit and am currently considering this one: http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-pioneer-deh-...

Well, I'm hoping to (finally) sort out a little scrape my front bumper has because some incompetent woman driver (I have nothing against women drivers, just the incompetent ones ) at uni decided to reverse into it while it was parked! Thinking about colour coding the rub strips at the same time...

Is your cat still intact? If so, why not just have a straight through? Apparently the noise levels aren't much higher higher without the back box and it'll make your exhaust system less restrictive :)

Well, thanks for the replies guys :) So high 30s to low 40s seems alright in start-stop traffic for this time of year?

I'm taking it that you usually get a higher MPG in the summer? If so, how much?

Cheers,
Ash :)

New member - MPG issues

Hello all, I'm Ash, a second year at Durham uni. First post over here, so don't be harsh  Bought a 53 plate 1.4 TDi sport with 23k on the clock (now 24k) back in October from a VW dealer (Mill Sunderland) and decided to call him Fritz :D. I think I'm getting rather poor fuel economy from it...s...
