Got the piston moving and like you said, it's threaded.. Don't quite see how unscrewing it will help me to get the pads in as that onl makes the gap smaller...

Am I being really dumb and missing some mechanism that locks the piston in place...?

I've disconneted the handbrake btw!

IIRC When I looked into this, the guys I spoke to said that the only way to really improve the brakes was to swap out the master cylinder with a larger diameter, which enables you to exert more force on the pistons of the calliper. To go for a for a 6 pot and massive disks on the standard master cyl...

And the survey says?? Working on what's gone wrong with mine in the past, this sounds like either HT or cambelt.. see http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/viewtopic.php?t=10681 Hope it's the HTs! Edit - A good way to check your HTs aren't arcing is to pour water over them, you'll soon find out if t...

I fully agree - mine went at 42k - made a complaint but never heard anything from it. I don't think I'm going to get my £400 back, but I'd like to think that it won't screw everyone else up. It's all about presenting the issue with everones details in one go, they've listened to us once with the pe...

Hope it isn't too painful for ya - doesn't sound anything like when my cambet slipped, mine would misfire only once it'd got hot.

http://www.matey-matey.com/trackday-preparation_1.shtml Good general track day guide - it's written for mk1 & 2 golf owners, but a lot of the points are relevant for all cars. I'd definately go for it, just remember that it's not about the going fastest (you never will) but the enjoyment of ragg...

IIRC you shouldn't top up combi or mineral oil with fully synthetic. If I were you i'd just get a small can of the VW oil and top her up, if you're going to get an oil change in April anyway there's no point in doing it now.. Just make sure you check the oil level with the dipstick before you go pou...

I've had enough - I'm throwing my toys out the pram

Sick of it breaking, so I'm going to get rid.. Finally had my insurance work done so that's not an issue, just trying to work out the logistics of selling mine privately and getting my Mk1 Golf.. The final straw is the clutch cable going again, and having to drive about 10 miles to get home tonight ...

Best bet is to just drop in and ask em if you're worried, at least if they give you bad news you have some time to sort it out..

Good luck!
